119: The Plan

  "You’re my contact?"

  "Yes.

  Surprised?"

  "A little."

  "This is war!

  Our war!

We’re fighting for the freedom of our country!

Nothing should be too good for that!"

  "... I guess you’re right."

For a moment, they observed the tower in silence.

Luckily, they hadn’t been spotted yet.

  "So...

What’s the plan?" Kawao whispered to Sordo.

"We’ll wait for the next shift change.

Then we’ll sneak inside, take out all the soldiers as quickly as possible, and seize control of the tower."

  "Sounds pretty straightforward."

  "It’s not.

I’ve been here for three days observing their routines.

There are 20 soldiers holding the tower in total.

Once we’re inside, your priority is to secure their communications device at all costs!

You absolutely must not destroy it!

If you do, the other outposts will immediately know something’s wrong.

You’ll need to push ahead, secure the device, and defend it until we’ve cleared the tower!"

"What does the device look like?"

"It’s in the back left corner on a desk.

You’ll know it when you see it."

Sordo then gave Kawao a quick rundown of the tower’s layout.

In the rear, there was a raised platform functioning as an intermediate floor.

From the platform, stairs on both sides led to the second floor, where the soldiers’ sleeping quarters were located.

But their focus was on securing the ground floor.

Soon enough, the shift change began.

  "Now!" Sordo whispered urgently.

Together, they trailed the departing soldiers and hid near the entrance to the tower.

  They peeked inside.

The soldiers who had just finished their shift informed the next group to head out.

Toward the back, on the platform, a few soldiers were chatting casually.

Sordo gave Kawao a hand signal to begin.

  Kawao dashed forward.
