CHAPTER -126 [The Cards]

  CHAPTER - 126

Narrator: After a few seconds, Valeria stepped forward too, asking for the same as Iris.

The old woman shuffled the cards and placed three on the table, then began turning them over:

First card: the image of multiple trees.

Second card: the image of many people.

Third card: the image of blood.

Touching the cards slowly and trying to interpret the figures with a hint of doubt, the woman said:

"Something will happen in a place with many trees, very likely crowded, and blood will be spilled.

But it’s unclear by whom or where."

Valeria looked a bit hesitant and said:

"Trees... that could mean a forest, most likely, right?

And the many people... maybe a crowded countryside with lots of trees…

The blood could be an injury, maybe..."

Everyone fell silent, unable to know for sure.

The next one to ask was Lucrezia.

Once more, the woman shuffled the cards and laid three on the table, flipping them one by one:

First card: the image of a door.

Second card: the image of a black cat.

If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. Please report it.

Third card: the image of a hammer.

The woman, growing increasingly uncertain in front of such generic cards, was unable to offer a clear answer.

They were just simple figures—common, found anywhere.

Lucrezia, with her usual bored expression, said nothing, but still thanked her politely.

Valeria and Iris tried to convince Selene and Rafael to give it a try as well.

Only Selene agreed, while Rafael refused.

Just like before, the woman shuffled the deck and placed three cards on the table, revealing them one at a time.

  Selene, very curious, watched closely.

First card: the image of two frightening eyes.

Second card: the image of a moon and a fire with some logs.

Third card: the image of a sun with a man and a child.

The woman stared at them for a while, then said:

"One thing is certain... it won’t all happen at the same time, and I can’t tell if these will be good or bad events."

Selene tried to interpret, joined by Dav, who examined each card with a serious expression and clenched fists.

She felt something was going to happen soon, even without knowing what.

Everyone turned to Dav, and with smiles full of curiosity, they convinced him to try as well.

The old woman shuffled the cards and placed three on the table:

First card: the image of a man walking, wrapped in shadow.

Second card: the image of a clock.

Third card: the image of tears.

The old woman couldn’t fully understand everything, but her face filled with tears as she clutched the cards tightly.

"Always remember the people and things that matter most to you, no matter what happens in the future."

Dav handed her a handkerchief, thanked her respectfully, and paid before leaving the shop with a serious look on his face.

The girls followed him in silence, moved by the woman’s words and tears.

Dav paused for a moment, spotting an ice cream shop.

He turned slightly toward Lucrezia and the others:

"Didn’t you want some ice cream? We should hurry before the best flavors run out."

With a small smile, they all headed toward the gelateria.

That day, everyone noticed more clearly the forced smile on Dav’s face and the growing tension in his eyes.

Even Lucrezia remained quiet, eating her ice cream with an unexpected sadness.

As they approached the counter—maybe to tease him or just to watch him more closely—Lucrezia raised her arm toward him and said with a half-smile:

"Want to try mine? If you don’t like it, you won’t risk buying it and being disappointed after."

Dav patted her head and, with his pinky finger, took a little bit of her ice cream, making a silly face:

"Thanks for letting me try it. Now I’m sure I won’t pick the same."

He smiled at her, and Lucrezia hugged him.

The other three, seated at the table, witnessed that sweet and familiar scene.

They watched that moment of affection between Dav and Lucrezia—two people who had once shared tears and anger, now there, eating ice cream.

  Like a real family.
