The Beauty That is the City Lord

The Beauty That is the City Lord

It had been half-an-hour, Gu Mingyu would’ve guessed before Zhao Yuwen finished dressing himself, including making sure his hair was in neat place and not a single strand was sticking out and let alone that fancy hairpin.

Made of pure Imperial Jade Green, it must’ve costed at least three mansions and a plot of fifty yards worth. In fact, the only reason Gu Mingyu had known that Zhao Yuwen got into the carriage was the poking of his cheeks he felt while in the middle of his nap.

  “Hmmm.”

“Xiao Huli, you can’t fall asleep now.” Zhao Yuwen said, “You have to introduce me to the City Lord, I am relying on you from now on.”

“If you flatter me anymore, I’m afraid my insides will turn sweet.”

“Do you have to turn everything I say into some sort of insult?”

“As long as you continue to act this way, I shall endeavor to annoy you, spite you and maybe if Demons Below I am blessed, end you.”

“Ended by your hand.” Zhao Yuwen remarked, “I would endeavor to be there one day, to be worthy enough for it.”

“If you keep being a flattering lap dog, I might endeavor to do with the here and now.”

  “Y-You—”

“Zhuren…” Zhong Quan’s pleading and pitiful voice interjected, “Have mercy and allow This Servant to have a couple days of rest, for this poor and old body…”

Who would’ve known that Xiao Bendan was so capable, especially upon the first meeting? Guess being Honorable really does hide what lays underneath.

“A few days of rest? Did you cripple yourself by accident?”

Slap! Right on the back of Zhao Yuwen’s head.

  “W-What was that for?”

“So thickheaded.” Gu Mingyu said, “Can’t you tell your poor Xiaogou had been eaten up? I am frankly surprised he can move to begin with.”

  “Is this true?”

Zhong Quan’s face had flushed with bright pink, with a low voice replied. “This is true, Your Servant has been eaten up.”

  . . .

  . . .

  . . .

It was at that moment that Gu Mingyu witnessed Zhao Yuwen fainting onto the floor, from either surprise or pure shock he didn’t bother to know or care as Zhong Quan scampered away, likely in a bit of shame.

Gu Mingyu pinched on the top of his nose as a soft sigh sounded. “Such a useless thing, why do I even bother with it?”

As with a slight tap of his fingers, the horses were startled in fear and started heading towards the destination. As he eased himself back despite noticing a pair of eyes peaking at him in the distance.

  A familiar pair of eyes.

When the carriage had arrived at the City Lord’s place of residence, one would first notice the size and second to notice the number of floors that it holds.

“Are you going to continue pretending to be fainted or do I need to throw you onto the floor to wake you up?”

Zhao Yuwen rose like the recently dead rose from the coffin. With complete composure, and looking around at his own surroundings.

“If you're done looking like an idiot recovering from a nasty hangover, you should follow me, otherwise you might end up dead by other hands.”

Gu Mingyu hope off the carriage and swaggered inside climbing step by step while Zhao Yuwen hurriedly followed in tow. As many tried to directly avoid his eyes, whisperings could be heard in the lowest tones and of course, the reeking smell of fear.

  “W-Why is he here?”

“How much blood will be shed this time around?”

“Maybe the City Lord ordered his arrival on the mess that was caused last time?”

“I can hear you all.” Gu Mingyu said, “I’m old but certainly not deaf.”

  Silence.

Gu Mingyu continued up the stairs until reaching the fourth floor and opened the door to see standing in a throne like chair, was the City Lord of Yinghua City.

  Meili27.

The City Lord of Yinghua City was a woman compared to the beauty of Yang Fei herself, but one would not dare compare the same fate, for with that single ruined scar, she would never be truly beautiful ever again.

But he felt the description of Meili did an injustice to who she really was as a person and character. Made her seem shallow and no proper depth, and minor in the grand schemes of things. Gu Mingyu had felt this thought in all three of his lifetimes.

“I brought this idiot who wanted to see you.”

  “I-Idiot?”

  “What else would you be?”

“I’ll have you know I am considered a rather intelligent man, a gentleman of respectable reputation and particularly a good man.”

Gu Mingyu snorted, “That’s like saying that Xiao Zhu isn’t a Zhu, honestly would you believe such bullshit in the first place?”

“He is indeed someone special.” Meili said, “And the fact he hasn’t been killed by Lao Huli for daring to spek with such an arrogant tone shows he has more balls than anything else.”

  “Do you agree? A-Zhu.”

Hong Zhu who was standing on the right side of Meili coughed as a subtle tint of pink flush appeared on her cheeks.

  “As you say, City Lord.”

Oh, the shippers would go crazy for this. Well, the ones who aren’t blind to the situation before them would, then again, each set of eyes shows a different view of the world.

“In fact, the reason I am here is in truth because someday in the future I suspect I might get poisoned or—”

“You Old Women! You come out and meet This Miss! This Miss wishes to speak with you!”

“Did she just call you old?”

“Indeed, she did.” A small smile formed on Meili’s face as she had gotten up from her throne-chair, “It’s been a while since a someone so young and arrogant who doesn’t know the difference between the Heaven and Earth dares to insult me in such a manner, and the last one had ironically enough was her mother.”

“Her Mother—” Gu Mingyu kicked Zho Yuwen in the shin causing him to fall to the ground in pain cutting off his question that was about to form.

“Don’t you know one shouldn’t touch a dragon’s inverse scale? You want to die a quick death, do it on your own time, don’t drag me into it.”

“Y-Your sharp-tongue wounds me more than the kick in the shin….”

“Still have time to be cheeky then it would be better if you keep quiet, for all of our sakes.”

  “N-Noted.”

By the time that Gu Mingyu had turned around he noticed that Meili was gone, and she had floated down below all the way to the first floor where there was a giant stage in the middle.

This was going to be interesting.
