System sighed and thought to himself, 'He lost it? Isn't it more that this greedy butterfly wants to add the ring to his treasure pile?'
System watched the butterfly's ridiculous performance helplessly. At the same time, he looked at the pattern inscribed on the ring's inner band.
Like Aura had said in his mental message, although the pattern on the inside of the ring's band looked like a decorative design at first gnce, it seemed more like words upon closer inspection.
However, while there truly were words inscribed on the ring, those words were definitely not the 'Aura's Ring' that Aura cimed they were.
The butterfly had deliberately deceived System just because he knew that System couldn't recognize the nguage that the words were written in.
Unfortunately for Aura, System's [Mental Transmission] ability did more than simply allow him to send and receive mental messages. It also allowed him to feel the emotions of other living things.
This ability wasn't as powerful as mind reading, but System could still judge whether the other party was lying from the changes in their emotions.
...
It seemed like Aura was determined to take the ring for himself. The butterfly seemed to be having a great time pying with the ring that he held tightly in his legs. He even started using his proboscis to clean off any remaining ghost ashes from the ring.
System couldn't help but send Aura a mental message, "I remember you said before that you don't like these kinds of external things, and that you like to keep your heart pure. Why did you get like this after seeing the ring?"
After hearing System's remark, Aura subconsciously pushed the ring away with his feet, but then he immediately grabbed it and pulled it back again.
The butterfly tried to expin himself to System, "I was talking about other people's things at that time. I don't like other people's things, but this ring is mine. Isn't it obvious that I would like and cherish my own things? Is there something wrong with that?"
System thought, 'You don't like other people's things? Right after you broke out of your pupa, Shava's treasures went missing more than ten times. Later, she had no choice but to give you half of her treasures.'
System also had the "Funny Butterfly" video at his fingertips, which recorded the ridiculous things that Aura had done in the past.
"So you're saying that three days ago, your precious ring was easily snatched away from you by some rubbish ghost?"
"How is that possible? That piece of trash...I mean, yes, it did steal my ring. I just wasn't in a good state at the time. If I were in the same condition that I've been in these past two days, I would have killed that trashy ghost easily."
System could feel the anger that Aura was suppressing when he sent that mental message. It seemed like Aura really liked this ring.
Unfortunately, there were too many loopholes in the lies that Aura had made up on the spur of the moment.
"What you're saying is that you, who have been in a good state for these past two days, still chose to remain indifferent after discovering the thief who had stolen your treasured and beloved ring?"
"You!" After he heard System's question this time, Aura got angry, but after thinking for a long time, he couldn't find any words to defend himself. In the end, Aura simply pressed the ring tightly under himself and said, "This ring is mine. I'm going to sleep. You can go now."
When System saw Aura's nervous appearance, he sighed helplessly and said, "Honestly, this ring isn't useful to me at all. It's not impossible to give it to you, but you have to tell me what happened when you killed that ghost half a year ago."
After hearing System's words, Aura seemed to feel relieved. The butterfly loosened his grip on the ring that he was clutching tightly with his feet.
Aura looked over at System and starting thinking. While Aura attempted to remember what had happened six months earlier, System sensed the butterfly's emotions.
However, even after Aura thought for a long time, he didn't remember anything. He seemed to have completely forgotten about the spirit that had disturbed his sleep half a year earlier.
Butterfly-Aura's behavior hadn't changed much from back when he used to be a frost dragon. He still generally didn't waste his brain power on remembering unimportant things.
It was like the first few times when the dragon had seen System. Aura could tell that the little insect seemed familiar, but he couldn't remember where he'd seen him before.
When System sensed Aura's emotions that seemed to be the butterfly's annoyance at failing to remember anything, System was able to determine that Aura had most likely completely forgotten about killing the ghost half a year earlier.
If the previous ghost had dropped any treasures like the ring, there was no way that Aura could have forgotten about it.
It seemed like a ring being carried by this new ghost had only been a coincidence.
...
System thought for a while before saying to Aura, "Forget it. It's fine if you can't remember anything. Just now, you said that there were some words inscribed on the ring. Do you know what they mean? And don't try to tell me they say 'Aura's Ring.'"
Aura pulled the ring out from under himself and stared at the inside of the ring for several minutes before shaking his head. "I seem to remember seeing this style of text before, but I don't recall where."
System hadn't expected Aura to know anything, so he wasn't too disappointed. As for the useless magic ring, giving it to Aura wasn't a big deal.
But just as System was about to leave, he suddenly received a surprised mental message from Aura. The butterfly seemed to have suddenly remembered something, and he quickly started reciting the words that were inscribed inside the ring.
Right after System received Aura's mental message, a strange energy fluctuation spread out from the ring, and the bck gem started to emit a gray light.
System's blood trembled slightly, and his [Intuition] felt uneasy again.
"Stop! Stop reading!"
System tried to stop Aura, but the butterfly seemed to be immersed in the ring's words and didn't respond to System's mental message.
System could only send a message to Shava, who was guarding nearby, asking her to snatch the ring away from Aura. At the same time, he quickly retreated and tried to get as far away from the ring as possible.
However, just as Shava rushed up and was about to grab the ring that Aura was holding, the gray light shining from the gem suddenly bloomed brightly.
The light instantly enveloped Shava and Aura. Although System had already retreated a good distance away, his body was also covered by the gray light...
...
System didn't feel a fatal threat to his life, but he suddenly felt very dizzy. His mind felt fuzzy for a while, and then he appeared in an unknown pce.
This new location was about the same temperature as System's underground nest. There was no wind blowing, and the air felt a bit dry.
System seemed to have appeared in an empty hall. The floor was covered with shiny bck bricks. There were portraits of some strange shadow creatures hanging on the walls, and the picture frames they were in seemed to be made of bone.
System also saw some candle holders and mp stands made of bone. The magic candles and mps on them were emitting a dim yellow light. If System hadn't observed carefully, he might have thought that the candles and mps were real.
He looked over to the side and saw his two companions who had arrived here with him, Aura and Shava.
It seemed that the ring had used some unknown means to teleport the three of them somewhere.
