When It Resets - Chapter 456

Courtney sighs, “While interesting, how does the fact that you believe dungeons are basically the System’s attempt to convert all the Energy into Qi and Mana affect us?”

Jason shrugs, “Well, for me personally it means I’ll be dungeon diving a lot more at the higher levels. The fact that a dungeon’s core room removes all Mana and Qi regeneration means it is basically prime real estate for my in-game cultivation. I’m sure it won’t be a one stop shop of course, but useful nonetheless.

“As for the two of you? We’ll refer back to the concept of yin and yang. Mainly the symbol and the concepts behind it. Because sure, people claim there isn’t any Mana or Qi in the core room, I don’t believe that will be quite true. Just as the two sides of the symbol have a dot of the opposite color, in the most extreme of situations, there should be some of the others.

“This isn’t exactly one to one, of course. After all, we aren’t talking about a pure Mana environment giving birth to Qi, which would be a more direct comparison. Still, if my idea is true, the dungeon is in charge of taking Energy and turning it into Mana and Qi. That being the case, how could the core not have any?”

Rosha smiles, “Courtney, I think there might be something to what he just said!”

That got a big reaction out of Courtney. “Why would you say that? It makes no sense if you don’t buy into his creation myth for NeoRealm.”

Rosha shrugs, “Just something from when I was training with Peter. While he didn’t generally delve into dungeons all that much, he did mention that away from guild control the balance of power can vary wildly.

“One location might be flooded with mana because of a certain ore while right next door Qi might be about the only power because of some plant. It is only around dungeons that a balance is reached, even if there is something that would unbalance things. Not only that, but if an area doesn’t have a dungeon, he found there would be less Mana and Qi in general.”

Courtney shakes her head, “All I’m hearing is a bunch of baseless guesses. While I do believe the various observations, both yours Jason and Peter’s. Jason’s assumptions for what that means is something different.

“However, despite how much I might hate to admit it, some of those guesses make sense. They certainly don’t make common sense, but I have a certain understanding of how the world works. That includes the fact that the deeper you get, the more common Energy based monsters get. This isn’t proof, but combined with some other stuff does point to the world being filled with Energy “

Jason claps, “Well, I guess we just need to finish the dungeon if we want to figure out more!”

By this point, they had managed to make it through a number of fights on the second floor. Not because they were easy, but because they were very cut and paste. While each fight taken individually would have been interesting, the second floor ended up suffering in the same way as the first, with each fight being basically the last one but more.

A pattern that held out until the fourth floor. This was on purpose, or at least as on purpose as anything in a dungeon can be. While it wasn’t the weakest dungeon out there as the minimum boss level for one is level 25 and the boss here has 5 levels on that. The dungeon is still considered a beginner’s dungeon by the Guild and so they’ve made it boring for as long as they can.

That time period by System fiat was basically the amount of floors it took a team to get through in a day. Of course this didn’t mean a literal day, but rather how much they could actively adventurer and not just walk around. This timing was quite a bit off when it came to Jason’s group though, as while only having three party members as compared to the average six. The team was a lot more competent than the average group trying to break through the third bottleneck.

Courtney didn’t let this get to their heads though and put her foot down when they reached the fourth floor, in this case there being an actual separation. There being a hole in the floor at the end of the third floor with some “fallen” rocks making a staircase down. Now, unlike some fancier dungeons, Invasion from the Deep Sky didn’t have any portals set up for easy coming and going except the customary portal in the core room.

This meant that to leave the group was going to have to trek back all the way to the entrance. Rosha wasn’t exactly happy with this. “Why can’t we just camp out in the dungeon? I know that as long as we get back in within a day’s time the instance won’t reset, but this doesn’t feel authentic to the dungeon experience I heard Peter talking about.”

Jason laughs, “Peter was out in the middle of the Wilds so of course he camped out in the dungeon. If they were instanced dungeons, he was basically the safest you can be out there. After all, anything that might have tried to go after him would end up in their own instance. Though even without instances it would still be relatively safe since the dungeon would naturally clear out any trails he might have left as it returns itself to its default state.”

Courtney nods, “Also, just a small correction, it isn’t 24 hours to get back in before the dungeon resets. It is 24 hours after you leave going right until you enter a floor that is less than half cleared of hazards. I’m sure more than a few groups have fallen afoul to that generalization. Run out of time and while the dungeon won’t repopulate on top of you, the floors that you aren’t on will. Nothing spells doom, like having your escape route suddenly teeming with monsters when you don’t expect it.”
