TJoCZ Day 35

Thursday, July 05, 2018, 7:30 PM Norfolk, VA

I woke up and got out of bed at sunrise, as usual. Knowing that I needed to get a start on the Shelter’s project, I decided to make the first of five of these setups. It went surprisingly fast, maybe because I was putting in restrictions on who could use it (only those of positive moral viewpoints), but I got this first prototype done in under an hour. Maybe practice really does make perfect. Rex decided that he was going to go out to fish for his own food, in the guise of an osprey, so I got my daily rations in, and summoned up a bunch of Unseen Crafters to keep working away on my armor, and restarted my Alchemical set working away using Animate Tools. With everything set up, I started my way towards the Shelter once I was certain that it was open.

The worker at the Shelter was there again this morning, and I pulled out both of the two boxes, the one of my own, and the first one that I had made to be gifted to the Shelter. I pulled out the extra meals that would be available from my own, weaker Field Provision Box, and asked the worker what they thought would be best to try to mimic for the stronger Field Provision Box that copied the form of the food placed into it. The worker brought out a wrapped up meal, basically a large sandwich, and I put it into the box. I told them the first and second command words, telling them to use the command words first, because I wanted them to use the item and ensure that it works. The worker cautiously did so, and pulled out the sandwich copies, one at a time, until there were thirty of them.

There was another reason why I had wanted to make sure that the person could do it, because of the morality restriction, I felt that I could trust them more. The worker was amazed by the box continuing to provide the thirty meals. I told them that they should try for the liquid next, and they got a bottle of water and put it in. They said the words again, and then pulled out thirty bottles of water. I told them that they can do this for enough food and water for thirty people a day, and that they can change out the item in between meals.

I cautioned that the meals would be nutritionally complete, but that whatever they were changed to, was just a temporary transformation that would only last for an hour after being pulled from the box, and that whatever food was leftover would disappear after twenty-four hours. I told him that the liquid would only ever be water, even if it was changed in taste, temperature, and appearance. The worker looked at me with a bit of interest, and asked if that meant that it didn’t have any caffeine or calories. I shrugged and said that it would be the exact same as regular water. The worker laughed and said that this would be even better than anything else, because people could drink whatever they want and not gain any calories from it.

I shrugged, saying that I had gotten the idea for it back where I was from, and that flavored water was something that was seen as a nice alternative drink at the town where I went to school and was becoming more popular in the city where I had lived. The worker listened to my ranting and asked if there were going to be more like this. I told them that it might take me a while, but that I would hopefully have them finished within a week. The worker thanked me again, and asked if this was really real. I told her that there were people who flew, aliens who attacked this world, and other mystical things in this world, a box that creates food should not be that bizarre.

I said my goodbyes, and then went roaming around the city on patrol. There wasn’t much of anything going on, in fact, the only thing that I really encountered was a stray cat that looked a little famished. I did my best to get it to trust me, despite not having my skill in that area, managing to get fairly close, close enough to give it some food, but it was too skittish to trust me. I backed away carefully. The cat didn’t bolt, but I figured that maybe I could try again on another day.

After patrolling on my own for a while, I decided to help again with the Ambulance crew. I got to the hospital and met up with David again. We had a fairly easy day, made a lot easier by the teamwork of the EMT diagnosing the problems and ensuring that the magical healing wouldn’t cause any issues, before I used my spells to do so. We made a fairly competent team, making sure that the patient was ready for any of my magical ministrations. After the shift that I helped with, I went around doing another patrol, seeing that the cat that I had seen earlier had left to do whatever cats do.

When I got back, I found that Rex was napping with a full belly. Apparently he got to have a fun day of relaxation. I knew that I could use my haversack to get another round of spellcasting in, but I decided to save it for tomorrow, and just enjoy the rest of the night, reading and planning on what to do tomorrow, before heading to bed early, to ensure that I can get the most out of the day tomorrow. I prepped everything as usual, cleaned up everything, instructed a set of Animated Tools to work on the Box for tomorrow, while another set continued to work away on the long term alchemical project that I had them working away on.
