13 - Goldvale - Cali

  Hey Diary,

  Wow. Just, wow.

  This city is amazing.

I don’t know if all cities are like this, but I’m starting to think I’m a city girl at heart.

Sure, we’ve only been here… eleven hours, but in those hours we went shopping, then went to a spa, then had lunch, then met Maeve’s friend, then went shopping again, then had dinner at a fancy restaurant, then came here and relaxed!

Maeve’s friend is Risa Halibut. Of, y’no, Halibut Bank. So yeah, they’re just a tiny bit stupid rich. Risa has a whole wing of a mansion to herself. I have never seen a house so big or fancy. She’s got, like, actual maids who do all the cleaning and stuff.

And Maeve lived here for a whole year!

I just… want this. This is very nice.

And yeah, I know Risa’s father worked very hard to make all this money, and Risa has a full-time job now too, but… It’s just all so nice.

  So fancy.

  So big and elegant.

And I'm… completely out of place here. I mean, the shelf in the shower has five bottles on it and two bars of soap, and without the labels I would have had no clue what they were for. I mean, I didn't know there were separate shampoos and conditioners for hair and tails. And I've never seen special soap for… down there… And the soaps were specifically for ears and feet. I've never used special feet soap before, and I don't know why I couldn't have just used the normal body wash.

And that’s just the stuff for in the shower! There’s like twenty powders and creams in the cabinets for when everything is dry!

Sorry, I just… When Wisp was born, my bedroom was cut in half so she could have her own bedroom, too. As I grew out of clothes, they went to her. We have one bathroom, and Mom buys all the soap and stuff. The one time Maeve gave me a fancy body wash, everyone used it. Everything I've ever had was small and cramped and shared and preferably multi-use.

So seeing a huge bathroom with very specific items in it, and I can spend as long as I want in the shower… I don't want to go home. I'm never going home.

I'm going to learn how to fit in here as fast as possible, and I'm going to work hard, and I'll make enough money to get my own huge house with a big bathroom and an insane number of soaps and conditioners.

  That or I'll die trying.

I feel like I should feel bad. Like I should write to Mom and tell her I'm sorry for running away. But I'm not sorry. At all.

This is probably the best thing I've ever done.

Sure, I don't know what I'll be doing tomorrow, but it’ll be fun. And whatever I do day after tomorrow will be fun, too.

Maybe in a month I'll feel differently. We’ll see. Until then, this is too fun.

  Signing off,
