Chapter 1

  James

James stared at the immortal figure of his brother and felt the familiar pang of hurt. They had once been identical, but now he was older, a man.

He had grown up, experienced the world, and gone on his adventures. But Peter still looked to be the same age he had been 70 years ago on the night their parents had abandoned them.

Not that Peter remembered, he didn’t remember anything about before. Before the fairies, before Neverland. No, James was the only one who recalled the chill of London’s streets and the ache of empty bellies.

“Hook! Catch us if you can!” With a mocking laugh, the boy who was once his brother twisted in the air and led his band of Lost Boys into the woods.

It wasn’t just their age that made them different, Peter had been changed by the fairies he lived with. His ears were pointer his hair lighter and his teeth sharper.

“Captain? Are we following?” Smee asked hesitantly. James turned away and sighed. “No Smee, not today we still have injuries to care for.”

Smee had been the first boy he had saved, James had just arrived back to Neverland with dreams of a reunion with his brother. Instead, he found a small boy quivering within a hollow tree and a brother twisted by a never-ending youth.

He quickly learned that the brother he once knew was no more; in his place was a monster.
