5 - Pocket Dimension

Silas opened his eyes, trying to get a good look at whatever in the hell he was meant to be looking at. His eyes felt blurry, and he blinked and shook his head to clear his vision up, and he stood up. It felt like walking through mud, as he saw the green walls and halls.

The walls looked like they were moving, and Silas couldn’t tell if it was actually doing that, or if he was getting delirious. The sting in his waist still hadn’t gone away, and he felt the warmth of his own blood stain his front.

  [-2 Health]

Didn’t help that he felt whatever the hell that old man was secreting was digging into his flesh, eating it away. The dull pain surrounding him fully, as he decided on which hallway to go down from this central room with eight differing paths, all with a fog at each end.

And then whenever he took a step, his waist seemed to be restabbed, at least it felt like it. The warmth of the blood still fresh and staying such made Silas feel miserable, and kind of want to collapse down.

He finally decided to head down one of the random eight ones, and he blinked at the end, the order of the dimension he was within was swapped around, now he was within the facility once more, metallic walls on either side.

Silas knew he had no choice but to march on, and opened the door to find nothing on the other side of it, but a large open void. He almost slipped in, and the dull pain was numbed a little bit.

  [-5 Health]

But based on the damage counter,it wasn’t numbed in every wholesome manner, rather for his nerves being damaged. Silas decided to turn to face the other door, but it didn’t even have a button to help open it.

  [-5 Health]

He made a leap of faith, checking the time he had left to get out of the facility. 21:42:36 so the timer read, and he felt the wind brush past him. He saw some of the acidic substance fall off and into the void as he fell.

Eventually however, after falling long enough for him to lose track of time were he not given the constant timer; turns out Silas learnt he lost track of time after 2 minutes alongside what it felt to break a rib or two as he landed against a stone floor.

  [-35 Health]

Silas coughed a few times, the high number proving to him that this would’ve killed him, and the loud crack was certainly an ugly noise, and he wheezed for a moment or two, clutching his chest with how he stood.

He heard something laugh at him, it was an ugly one and one from somebody older. It also sounded garbled, as if the throat of whatever was laughing at him was filled with something other than air, other than the flesh that made it up.

But he had a place to go on to. 21:40:13 and he only had 21 hours, 40 minutes and however many seconds he had left, to get it out of not just this maze where his doom lay at his feet, but the place that fed him for years and years.

And the system was quiet too. This was the strongest ordeal he’d actually gone through, as he stepped forward from the cross shaped into a large hallway, as he felt the dull pain return alongside the sharp pain of his probably broken ribs.

He saw what seemed to be a throne, and the calling of the system in his personal thoughts bit him in the ass, as something sounded off in his head, alongside his alarm bells. He collapses down, his eyes shut.

  ******

Silas finally reopened his eyes, and he looked about the room he was stuck in, and of course, the System was yelling at him to get healing. He gripped a nearby crate and managed to stand and man did it hurt to breathe.

20:37:24 was what his time remaining read, and he swore under his breath, than swore again in his mind when the sharp pain spread so far. Of course, the system didn’t let him go completely unrewarded.

[Achievement Achieved; Escape the Pocket Dimension]

  [Rarity: Uncommon]

[Reward: 3 Dungeon Rewards, +10 EXP]

And he took a breath of relief as the 10 Experience shot him up enough to reach the new level. He felt the pain slowly ebb away, and with how the worst pain he’d ever felt before being his main focus he didn’t quite get to feel the healing process.

  [+Common Dungeon Reward]

[Common Consumable Attained; Slice of Unknown Meat]

  [+Common Dungeon Reward]

  [Common Equipment Attained; Rusty Dagger]

  [+Common Dungeon Reward]

  [Common Equipment Attained; Leather Chestplate]

  [Level 8]

  [+8 Stats]

And now, Silas had 8 extra stat points to place wherever, and now a leather chestplate that fits over his gray jumpsuit practically stained red and black now. It fit awfully well, as if tailor made just for the Senior Janitor.

And he also took a glance at least at the other two rewards before just letting them rot in his inventory, and ignoring the rusty dagger, he noticed the more… mundane. It was just a slice of Deli ham, but the system acted like it was something strange.

“Seriously..?” Silas couldn’t help but voice his dislike in that, and he bites down on the ham. And it was actually alright at worst. “At least I’ve managed to have worse… Though that worst was technically rotten.”

  [+1 Health]

And he felt the slice of meat heal him, at least a little bit, even if he was at full health already. Silas silently thanked the system at the lack of something like an integer bit overflow, or rather a protection against it. And now, he took this as a moment to breathe, the walls were metal now so clearly this had to be the Heavy Containment Zone.

At least, Silas had a hunch that was the case, he was stuck in a fucking box when the facility went over these ginormous changes and putting a whole lot more in a box that can almost kill him when he’s thrice as durable than the average person, actually nearly did and he could tell it wasn’t taking him seriously.

“I fucking swear, I’ll kill that bastard when I get stronger…” Silas sits down against the wall, letting out a long sigh. He grabs whatever was on top of the plastic container to his right as he notices the real room he was in.

  [Item Acquired; Medkit]

He let out a little swear at the item entering his inventory, before he looked over the railing into the elevator shaft. He let out a light shudder as he thought of how likely it was he died had he escaped the pocket dimension just a meter to the left.

He saw the dead guard atop the elevator at the bottom, but he couldn’t see the top of the empty shaft, only the broken elevator at the bottom. He turns around to the shelf, and sees something he couldn’t quite help himself from snagging.

  [Item Acquired; Level 3 Keycard]

  [Item Acquired; 9V Battery]

Silas wasn’t too certain of the usefulness of the battery, but with an infinite inventory, it was a waste to not take it. He walked towards the door out, and found himself another battery, and some eye drops.

  [Item Acquired; 9V Battery]

  [Item Acquired; Eyedrops]

And he now realizes, he was going to regret the swear to kill the Old man… And the System wasn’t quite taunting him as much as calling his bluff. And he swore one more time as he watched his timer drop down a bit more. 20:34:12
