Chapter 56

CHAPTER 56 — The Song Beneath the Water

  1. Bell — Water Capital

Bell’s party moved through the dim, humid halls of the Water Capital, torchlight dancing on green-blue walls.

  Everyone felt off.

  Cassandra murmured,

“The shadows don’t stay still here…”

  Aisha snorted.

“Great. Mood lighting in a death trap.”

Bell forced a smile—but something in the back of his mind kept replaying:

  Fire and wind spiraling together…

Warmth brushing his cheek on Floor 13…

  His journal glowing softly…

  Her words.

  He shook his head.

  Focus.

But before Lili could finish checking their map—

  The air shifted.

  Wet. Heavy. Wrong.

  A sound bubbled from below.

  A rumble like a heartbeat.

  And then—

  “BOOOOOOO—!!!”

The Moss Huge burst from beneath the water.

  2. The Chaos — Party Split

Explosive vines whipped out, smashing pathways.

  Lili screamed,

  “SPREAD OUT! DO NOT CLUMP!!”

  Aisha sliced through vines.

Mikoto pulled Daphne from a collapsing ledge.

  Welf yelled:

  “THE FLOOR IS GIVING WAY—!!”

  Bell sprinted to help—

But a massive root slammed the stone, splitting the entire section off.

  He tumbled into darkness.

  “BELL!!!”

  Lili’s voice echoed—

  And then faded.

  Bell plunged into cold water.

  Silence swallowed him.

  3. Marie’s Lagoon

Bell gasped awake in a glowing underwater cavern.

Shimmering blue lights danced on the ceiling.

  Bioluminescent ripples swayed.

Something soft pressed against his cheek.

  A girl’s whisper:

  “Hey… you’re awake…”

  Bell sat up—

—startled, bracing instinctively, expecting another Iguazu swarm—

  And instead froze.

A mermaid with shimmering jade hair and warm, curious eyes floated beside him, tail curled like silk.

  Marie.

  Her smile was gentle.

“You’re Bell… right? Wiene talks about you.”

  Bell blinked.

  “Wiene? You know her?!”

  Marie giggled, water rippling.

“She’s part of our family. Lyd worries too much about her… and she says you’re kind.”

  Bell’s heart squeezed.

  “She’s safe?”

  Marie’s expression dimmed.

“Yes… but the Dungeon is restless. We’ve had to hide deeper lately…”

  She swam closer.

“We all felt your fire and wind earlier.

A strange warm breeze reached even us.”

  Bell blushed faintly.

  Marie tilted her head, amused.

  “Was that you?”

  Bell sputtered.

  “W-Well— I mean— not exactly—”

  Marie laughed like rising bubbles.

  “You’re cute.”

  Bell drowned internally.

Marie brushed water over his hand.

“The Moss Huge is hunting my friends…”

  Bell stiffened.

  Marie extended her hand.

The cavern shimmered softly as she guided him.

“Your friends… the other Xenos?” Bell asked.

  Marie shook her head sadly.

“No. They’re not in the Dungeon at all.

  They’re in Knossos.”

  Bell froze.

  “Knossos?! Why?”

  Marie touched his wrist gently.

  “After Daedalus Street… after Wiene…

we couldn’t stay on the surface.

The Guild hid us. Fels watches over us.”

  Her voice dropped.

  “But Knossos is unstable.

  Part alive…

  Part wounded.”

  The ceiling trembled faintly.

“Your fire and wind… we felt it even there.

  It scared the little ones—

  but it kept them warm.”

  Bell flushed.

  “Ah— I didn’t mean—”

  Marie smiled warmly.

“I know. You never mean to frighten anyone.”

  4. XENOS POV — Deep Inside Knossos

A cracked chamber beneath the bones of the labyrinth…

  A place untouched by adventurers.

  Tremors rippled through warped stone.

Lyd pressed his palm to the wall.

  “Did you feel that…?”

  A faint pulse of heat—

  and wind.

  Gros growled.

  “Magic. Human. And strong.”

  Fels’ cloaked silhouette stepped forward.

  “Not hostile. But disruptive.

  Knossos reacts.”

  Lyd frowned beneath his helmet.

  “The labyrinth shifts again.”

  Fels nodded.

  “Something builds above.

  We must be ready.”

Wiene & Izzy — Deepened Scene

In a small alcove, Wiene sat on a moss-cushion, wings wrapped protectively around two sleeping young Xenos.

Izzy sat in her lap, clutching a smooth bubble-stone.

  Wiene smiled gently.

  “Try again, Izzy.”

  Izzy puffed his cheeks—

  A bubble floated up.

  Izzy gasped.

  “I DID IT!! Wiene—look!!

I wanna show— I wanna show— ALISE!!”

  Wiene blinked.

  “…Alise?”

  Izzy nodded eagerly, tail whipping.

  “She saved me!

She caught me when I fell!

She held me like… like I mattered.”

His cheeks reddened under his scales.

“I want her to be proud of me.”

  Wiene giggled softly.

  “Alise is kind.

  Warm, like Bell…

  but in a different way.”

  Izzy tilted his head.

  “Bell?”

  Wiene’s smile softened—shy, glowing.

“Bell is… someone very special to me.”

  Izzy scooted closer.

  “Special like family?”

  Wiene hesitated—

  Then nodded.

  “Yes. Family.”

  Izzy pressed against her side.

  “Then Alise is my family.”

  Wiene laughed softly.

  “You should tell her someday.”

“I will!!” Izzy puffed up proudly.

  But then the walls shuddered.

A faint ripple of fire + wind brushed the cavern.

  Izzy squeaked.

  “W-What was that?”

Wiene tightened her wings around him.

  “…I don’t know.

  But it felt… warm.”

  She glanced upward.

  “It felt like her.”

  5. Back to Bell — Marie Leads Him Onward

Marie led Bell to a safer tunnel.

  “We can’t fight beside you.

The Xenos must stay hidden until the Guild decides otherwise.”

  Bell bowed.

  “Thank you… all of you.”

  Marie smiled softly.

“When this is over… I hope you see Wiene again.”

  Bell’s chest tightened.

  “So do I.”

A massive roar shook the cavern.

  Marie’s tail flicked.

  “It’s close.

  Go.”

  Bell sprinted—heart steady, magic humming—

  and Marie’s whisper followed:

  “Be safe… hero.”
