CHAPTER - 129
Narrator: Seated at the tables, talking with the other ma?tre d's, they began to decide what to order, listening to the suggestions offered to make the choice easier.
Dav, still puzzled, kept his head down, scanning the menu without finding anything that even remotely resembled a hamburger with fries.
He looked at the director and gave a polite gesture to invite him over.
The director, curious, approached, rubbing his hands and smiling, happy to see Dav's funny expression.
After a few seconds, the director, a bit nervous and confused, tried to understand what he was looking for on the menu:
"Is there a problem, sir? You don’t seem very enthusiastic about our menu...
Would you prefer something else?"
Dav slowly turned his head, his eyes dull, looking at the menu:
"I’d really like two large hamburgers... and some fries, if you don’t mind."
The director personally took the order and went to the kitchen with the other ma?tre d's, determined to have the best hamburger ever served in his restaurant prepared for him.
Dav seemed calmer, appreciating the director’s speed and kindness, and began to relax.
Meanwhile, other ma?tre d's came in with pitchers of water and non alcoholic drinks, while red wine was served to the guards, including Vik.
The same applied to the professors sitting at the table with Dav.
This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it
Dav wasn’t fond of wine; he barely drank a glass of white wine in company.
And that evening, with Lucrezia present, he wanted to make sure she didn’t overdo it with the fine wines.
He signaled to one of the ma?tre d's who was setting the table and said respectfully:
"Could you bring some non-alcoholic or simply sparkling beverages? As you see fit.
I and another person won’t be drinking alcohol tonight."
The ma?tre d’ nodded and quickly went to get something for him and Lucrezia, who was sitting next to him, so he could keep an eye on her.
Lucrezia, with a playful and annoyed expression, stared at him with her arms crossed:
"I’m not a child! I’m of age, I can drink too!"
Dav stroked her face, leaning in and chuckling:
"I don’t want to be the only sober one in the car on the way back...
so I want at least you to be sober with me."
Lucrezia blushed, but with an ironic tone and turning away, she replied:
"Fine, fine! I’ll keep you company, if it matters that much to you."
Dav thanked her with a gentle stroke through her hair, like one would with a little sister.
Lucrezia, happy, started eating the breadsticks on the table, while Dav kept caressing her sweetly.
After a few minutes, the orders arrived along with the director.
With a covered tray, he approached Dav, then lifted the lid, making the boy’s eyes sparkle at the sight and smell of the hamburger:
soaked in red vinegar, with a sprig of rosemary, melted butter, a slice of lime, and separate sauces for the fries cut in various ways.
Dav took the first bite and was moved, covering his face with one hand and showing his usual funny expression, sincerely thanking the director, who, delighted, rushed off to tell the chef everything.
The others, amused, continued eating while watching his almost childlike reaction to a hamburger and fries.
As usual, Rafael began drinking without much concern, followed by Iris and Valeria, who laughed along with him.
Selene, more refined on such occasions, limited herself to one or two glasses to avoid causing any trouble or embarrassment for Dav.
The two exchanged a glance that seemed to say:
"Enjoy yourself and feel free, Sele."
Selene blushed, maybe because of the wine, maybe not, and began to eat and drink, occasionally glancing at Dav while he chatted with Lucrezia.
The students were enjoying their special moment with the professor and the guards protecting them, taking lots of photos and selfies with him, with the ma?tre d's and guards ready to share them on social media.
Dav leaned his head close to Lucrezia’s and took a photo with her smiling and making the peace sign with her fingers.
"I’ll use it as my background image. It’s really beautiful."
Lucrezia nodded and did the same: a photo with Dav making the peace sign.
She also set it as her phone’s background.
The two looked at each other, and Lucrezia, smiling, went back to eating with a happy air.
