An Open Door, a Missing Fox and a Bamboo Drinking Tea

When Zhao Yuwen and Zhong Quan had arrived at the top of the stairs and passed the first three rooms, it was noticed the room which was intended to be staying in for the time being had been opened. In fact, it almost looked like the door had been opened from the inside and not on the outside.

“Z-Zhuren….” Zhong Quan squeaked out with a through hint of fear in his voice, “Y-Your Servant thinks that perhaps that someone might’ve broken into the room and—-”

“And you assume something was stolen in.” Zhao Yuwen finished his sentence, “Thank you for stating the obvious, Zhong Quan.”

Zhong Quan had stiffened himself up, he would rather not speak again especially when Zhuren is in one of his moods and especially when that fan of his is open and covering his face and true expressions.

  So scary.

When Zhao Yuwen entered the room, he noticed that his adorable, fluffy (slightly fat) black furred one tailed fox was gone. No longer laying on the bed, sleeping there like he left him there.

“Ohoho.” Zhao Yuwen’s smile winded further and further as he clenched on his fan making a slight crack sound could be heard, “They dared to steal something I already claimed. It seems like these people have a death wish.”

This is really bad, Zhong Quan thought. The last time Zhuren had gotten this mad was when Miss Su had tried to stop him when he was leaving for the capital and caused a whole slaughter. So many corpses I had to bury by myself….

I have to think of something, Zhong Quan thought after a moment of letting the fear sink in. Otherwise Zhuren is going to lose his mind, and it will be even worse when he realizes that I didn’t try to stop him! My salary might even be deducted for the next twenty years!. ..

  “Zhuren.”

Zhao Yuwen turned to face Zhong Quan who for the most impressive part of five seconds tried to hide his fear, behind his already paler and sweater face.

  “Yes?”

“M-Maybe someone within the Inn had seen where the—Xiao Huli had gone off to, or where he had been stolen.”

“Hmm, that’s not the worst idea in the world.” Zhao Yuwen replied, “And who exactly would you suggest?”

  “I-I would suggest—-”

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.

“Personally, I think you should try Xiao Zhu over there.” Taozi interjected, “She practically knows everything that happens within the city’s walls, but if you are talking about a fox, the only one I can think about is Lao Huli. But —”

“But no one who has ever seen his true form has managed to live to tell the tale.” Yingzi chimed in, “It was rumored that the last person who tried to expose Lao Huli’s true form had their eyes plucked out, their arms chopped, their legs sliced slowly, their insides slowly ripped out and even worse….”

“Their cultivation was devoured, his blood was drained and his bone marrow was sucked. Until there was nothing but a husk of his former self.” Taozi finished the sentence while smiling cheekily, “But then again, he should’ve kept his mouth shut with the slander, daring to accuse Lao Huli of being—-cute.”

“Thank you for the knowledge.” Zhao Yuwen replied, “Especially about the tidbit, it would be especially down the line.”

When Zhao Yuwen met this Xiao Zhu, he noticed she was a beautiful woman. Pale in nature, but the most noticeable part was the cold and calculating eyes, it had looked like he was in the mirror reflection of himself. Was this how other people saw him?

“Lao Huli didn’t get kidnapped.” She said, “In fact if there was anybody who would be bold enough to kidnap it would have to be you.”

“And why would Miss Xiao assume such a thing?”

“Hong Zhu.” She corrected, “Xiao Zhu is what Lao Huli called me because when we first met, I was a small Bamboo who didn’t even gain a human form back then.”

  “B-Bamboo?”

“You are a dog demon and can’t smell me? Is your nose as useless as your eyes? Xiaogou19.”

  “Y-You—-”

“If anything, Lao Huli is likely sitting on the rooftop, drinking and if he gets enough wine in his system he most surely—-” Boom!

  “Fighting.”

  “Fighting?”

Zhao Yuwen looked out the window in the distance he saw a beautiful man(slighty more beautiful than himself) with black set of robes, not tied, with his chest and his–-nipples exposed slightly, bandages wrapped closer to the waist, with a small jar of wine in on hand and a sword of unknown origin in the other trying to slice down the youth dressed in full white, who wore a blue tassel in the hair.

  “Should we stop him?”

“Technically I should consider if Lao Huli even uses a fourth of his usual strength that brat is going to suffer a long and painful death.” Hong Zhu replied, “Honestly you would think that the Baihe20 sect would learn after the last time not to pick a fight within the city walls.”

It was with that Zhao Yuwen had seen Hong Zhu put down her tea and snatch her sword and sheathe and hop out of the window approaching the two of them. As Zhong Quan's eyes blinked, he turned towards Zhao Yuwen and said with confusion in his voice.

“Why would the Baihe Sect be here? Don’t they hate demons, spirits and other non-human beings? Why would they come to a city notorious for housing them and letting them reside here without much discrimination?”

Zhao Yuwen formed a smile on his face, as he opened his face. “It would be most interesting to find out, wouldn’t it?”

Zhuren has that smile again, Zhong Quan thought, and that doesn’t seem to be a good sign. Late Madam forgive me for not protecting your son like I promised for he has become a problem bigger than the Heavens themselves….

“Zhong Quan, stop slacking off and come along.”

Zhong Quan coughed, “Coming, Zhuren! Wait for me!”
