The Key to the Start and the Birch Broom Blowdown

Gently pushing his wife away, Vasyl Litrovych Butylkin cast a final parting glance at his native lands and the faces of his fellow villagers. "I am making this breakthrough for all of mankind," he muttered grandiosely into his slow-cooker, hermetically sealing the rusty hatch of his drum-module.

?From inside the drum, a muffled, distorted voice called out: "Ignition key to start!"

?"Copy that!" shouted the blacksmith Innokentiy in response, standing ready for the procedure.

?The next command rang out: "Blowdown!"

?"Blowdown!" Innokentiy confirmed. Grabbing a birch broom prepared for the bathhouse, he began energetically sweeping foreign particles off the surface of the shuttle.

?Following that, a new directive came from the cabin: "Priming!"

?"Priming!" Innokentiy repeated. Flipping the broom over, he aimed its wooden handle directly into the "Hyper-Flyer’s" nozzle—crafted from a stainless steel funnel—and gave it a thorough poking.

?The final, decisive command echoed: "Ignition!"

?"Well, Godspeed!" Innokentiy said. He sprinted back twenty paces, gritted his teeth, and began intensely cranking the Dynamo starter. At that moment, the long-awaited word, filled with determination, crackled through the toy walkie-talkie hanging around his neck: "Let's go!"

?And immediately, under the wild roar of the crowd and the crackle of the Dynamo, a shower of bright sparks erupted from the nozzle of the "Hyper-Flyer." Following them, with a violent hiss and whistle, came massive clouds of black and white smoke, accompanied by sharp tongues of flame. In just a few seconds, the piercing whistle reached its peak, and an ear-splitting, horrific EXPLOSION thundered over the entire village of Old Kerzaky and its surroundings.
