In Ezekiel's offices, he and Moon had already met to discuss the meeting the woman had with the locked-up man, and to see if they could clear up some doubts about what happened yesterday on television.
"I didn't expect you back so soon, Moon," Ezequiel said, straightening his tie. He looked like he was getting ready for an important meeting. "Considering how hard it was to get you the interview, I expected you to come back in a few days."
"It didn't take long to clear up my doubts... just like that transmission." He took off his left glove because something was bothering him. "Besides, you only got me two hours, it was obvious it wasn't going to take long."
-Those two hours cost me a lot of favors and a good couple of million
"You say that, but hurry up, you got them for me," Moon said as he adjusted something on his glove using a very fine screwdriver.
"That was because I support your research, Moon, and speaking of which..." He puts his elbows on the table and leans on his hands. "Does any of the information you obtained help explain yesterday's peculiar 'program'?"
"Luckily for us, yes..." He snapped his fingers, and from the glove he had removed, a hologram emerged, ready to explain his new research to Ezekiel.
"I hope so, Moon," he said, lying down on his chair while thinking, "What are we getting these kids into?"
Meanwhile, in Damian's room, Dante and Will were sitting on his bed, looking at their phones while they waited for him to get out of the shower.
"We lost Damian..." Will said with a sigh as he scrolled on his phone.
- How does it take so long?
After about 10 more minutes, the boy finally deigned to leave the bathroom, letting out a lot of steam from inside and with his hair all wet.
"Forty minutes," Will said, looking seriously at the boy before he could even say anything.
He was about to answer, but preferred to remain silent and let out a long sigh before going to put away his used clothes.
Meanwhile, Dante was reading information about the domes they saw in the videos a few days ago, where he found a post that marked all the locations of the registered domes, there being almost 100 of them spread all over the world.
"There are a lot, look," Dante said to Will as he showed him his phone.
"What?" he said until he saw his friend's phone and, frowning, "Are there really that many?"
"What?" said Damian, coming out of the other room and going to join his friends.
-Do you remember in the videos that you could see an energy dome falling? It turns out there are about 100 of them.
The boy fell silent again and took Dante's phone to confirm what he was being told, seeing that it was apparently true, since it was certified by a well-known company, although it seemed strange to him that such a company would have that information.
-If this is true, there must be many more accidents than they showed us
Will crossed his legs on the bed as he thought, "This means the odds of us having to fight are higher..."
- Well... if you think about it, it makes sense, because if those who fight are resonant and there are many resonant ones, it makes sense that there are many domes for them to fight in.
"Resonant?" Damian said to Will, raising an eyebrow as he sat down on a beanbag in front of them.
"I like that word better," the boy said, climbing higher onto the bed and leaning back against the edge, smiling slightly. "Can you imagine if we had to fight each other?"
"Whoa, can you imagine if the fights became public and we became like famous fighters?" Dante said with noticeable excitement.
The three boys began to fantasize about fame, glory, and epic battles, all things that fascinated each of them, the kind of things that started their friendship and strengthened it over time, three boys who, despite their environment full of disappointments and injustices, only dreamed of an exciting life like some fictional hero.
Meanwhile, in the same building, in Ezekiel's office, he was finishing his meeting with Moon and getting ready to start his conference.
-I understand, so according to Maximus, that "ability" that man gained is what allows him to control people?
With them was another tall woman with long hair and a suit, wearing glasses, who was silently writing everything down on her tablet.
"That was the conclusion we reached," Moon said as he finished the holographic presentation to continue making adjustments to his glove.
"Do you think the other dome winners also gained that ability?" Ezekiel asked.
-Well, in the videos no one else seemed to demonstrate it, but it's a possibility
The man got up from his chair to give some papers to his secretary while thinking "she is productive indeed" as he began to adjust the sleeves of his suit jacket and asked - "And do you know anything about the symbols that are formed?"
"Everything in its own time, Ezequiel, everything in its own time," the woman says as she turns her back on him to leave the office before him, to go and continue with her investigations.
A few moments after Moon, Ezekiel left the room to head to his meeting, followed very closely by his secretary.
Do you think the winners will cause problems outside the domes?
"Exclaimed the secretary, slightly raising her eyes from the papers she was preparing."
-I hope not, but...only time will tell
But on the other side of the world, on the balcony of what appeared to be an apartment building, where multiple colorful lights emanated and loudspeakers blared, a huge party seemed to be taking place. Inside, however, the constant banging of a door could be heard.
If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. Please report it.
"Please! I just want to sleep!" the man could be heard saying as he knocked on the door from outside, louder and louder, making it tremble, until finally the door gave way and fell hard inwards.
But when the door fell, it was revealed that this was the same subject who fought against Maximus
"Oh shit..." This caused many people at the party to pay attention to the man and begin shouting insults at him in a language he didn't understand.
-Well, now that I have your attention- before he could continue speaking, a man with dark skin and broad shoulders grabbed his shoulder, placing one of his hands in front of his face, showing how a column of water came out of it and took on a sharp shape until it looked like a razor, all with the intention of intimidating him.
Upon seeing the water knife, the man simply shook hands, destroying the structure that had formed and breaking the subject's wrist. The subject, who had gone from being threatening, began to beg in another language to be released, causing those who were insulting him to instantly fall silent.
"Let's see how I do this..." he said calmly without letting go of the other man who was practically crying from the pain, as he was simply ignoring him because he was thinking
-I order you to turn off your music and not to hold any more parties in this apartment complex...or in the next 5 blocks.
Although no one understood his language, without any explanation they began to comply with his orders, disconnecting all the speakers and lights in an almost desperate manner; even the man with the broken wrist began to gather his things to leave.
-Perfect! Well, with that said, see you later- after giving a small victory clap, he turned around ready to leave, until a light coming from the sky made him turn around thinking it was some spotlight from the party, but he realized that it came from the stars themselves as if it were a fiery comet.
"A meteorite?" he said in surprise as people around him ran away in terror, passing through the door behind him.
This great sphere of fire fell violently in the direction of the building, but stopped abruptly before impact, remaining at the edge of the rooftop, revealing that inside its burning center was a human figure, more specifically a female figure
-I order you to stay put and not run away…
The voice of the woman in flames resonated in all those who remained on the rooftop, lodging in their heads like a constant, sharp burning that forced them to stand still in an instant, ceasing to run and even to move, making them remain still in their place almost like statues that are at the mercy of said woman.
-I order you never to use that ability again!
The woman was left speechless when she saw that the man to whom the order was directed started walking towards her as if her words were nothing more than a breeze without any power or meaning.
-You know, you have to be careful with that. I've discovered that if you're not specific, it affects everyone who's listening.
"What the hell…" the woman froze despite literally being on fire.
"Look, I'll give you an example," he continued walking until he reached the edge of the building, standing in front of the woman and pointing his finger at her. "I order you to get down on the ground right now."
Before she could say anything else, she fell violently from the building using her own abilities, crashing onto the cement street and leaving a large crater in the street, leaving her on her knees totally shocked, immobile because she could not understand the situation.
"Damn, I should have specified that it was the floor of the building. I hope she's okay," he said as he peered over the edge of the building. But first, he turned to the people who were still frozen in place. "Um, I order you to move." Following this, he waved goodbye to the people, then jumped off the edge of the building to get down faster and check on the woman's well-being.
-none of the others were even close to this- he remained on his knees as the imposing and colorful flames around him slowly diminished.
But in an instant the man fell in front of her, leaving another, smaller crater, but this time he landed on his legs, remaining completely unharmed despite the fall.
Are you alright?
"You...how..." She trailed off, thinking of her words, until she practically jumped up to face the man. "Who the hell are you?"
"My name is Sa..." The man paused mid-answer, thinking, "I no longer identify with that name..." Looking up, he noticed a sign with a name he liked. "Can I use that?" "My name is Zenith."
"I'm not referring to your name, how can your orders supersede mine?" She moved closer to him and grabbed the collar of his shirt. "No one should have the power to control others." The fire surrounding her began to flare up again, burning so intensely that it melted the concrete beneath her feet.
"But did you just do it or not? What's the difference?" the man said, a little confused by the woman's apparent double standard.
"I only use it to prevent others from exploiting that ability. Controlling people's will to serve one's interests is disgusting... no one should use that power!" The woman tries to overpower the man using her flames, which at this point burn like plasma, dissolving everything around her, including the man's clothes.
"That doesn't change the fact that you just used that ability too." With a flick of his wrist, he shook the woman off, raising a large cloud of dust and debris. "As I see it, you also use it to serve your own interests."
"Or tell me, what's the difference between using that power so that people don't bother me and using it so that other people who have it don't use it in a way that bothers you?" the man said, rubbing his neck a little because he had some small burns left.
A simple and straightforward answer, aside from overwhelming strength, left the woman speechless, as she considered it outrageous that he made such a comparison.
"I know that... that no one should be forced to do anything," she said, confronting the man again, standing in front of him, revealing the anger in her eyes that burned with shades of green.
"Repeating your argument doesn't make it valid, you know?" The man sighed, a little more irritated. "I think if it doesn't cause a major crisis or seriously affect people's lives, I don't see what the problem is with using it."
The woman's feet touched the floor again and she slowly approached the man, gently and almost delicately placing her hand on his bare abdomen, who did not understand her actions.
That's because you're part of the problem…
A great beam of light shot from the woman's palm and struck the man directly, but the hardness of his body caused the beams of light to "splatter" around, destroying everything they touched, but also causing a burn across his entire torso.
In an instant, the man's calm expression changed to one of total annoyance at the burns. For this reason, he opened his hand and in a swift movement, struck the woman's face with his palm, slamming it against the cement with such force that it made her sink several meters into the ground, deforming the entire block and causing a blackout.
"Don't ever do that again," the man muttered through gritted teeth, as if his cold, apathetic demeanor had completely vanished.
Seconds after the huge impact, the woman got up quickly, although staggering a lot, trying to recover, she leaned on some pieces of concrete, while she looked at the man stunned, her face covered in blood and her nose broken.
"What's wrong?! Weren't you the one who wanted to fight?!" the man roared, but seconds later he put his hand to his face, seeming to return to normal, and took a long breath before saying, "I'm sorry... let's start again."
Before the man finished speaking, the woman flew away swiftly, cutting across the sky like a comet.
-Well… I suppose it was for the best, although I would have liked to know his name…
The man said amidst the devastation he caused, gazing calmly at the starry sky for a few seconds before returning inside the building, which threatened to collapse at any moment.
Meanwhile, in Damian's room, he was looking at the stars through his window, thinking, "making true promises...and the power to set unbreakable laws." Before his eyes, he saw a beautiful and bright shooting star pass by, a small cosmic event lasting only a few seconds, which completely changed the boy's image of the stars. "With that...I could make a real change."
The boy thought, while behind him his shadow moved slightly differently from his body, as if somehow, the body it followed was not his own.
