  The Universe Chronicles — 003

  “The Denial”

It’s been a few years since Miss Tessaria rejected my confession in front of the entire guild… I honestly thought that I would never recover.

But have no fear, I am a man whose resolve rivals that of the most epic of epic's, the most mythical, divine, legendary beasts!

“Yes, I am the man whose legend will go on forever!—Cheers mates!” I shouted proudly and raised my glass.

The guild members held their glasses high. “Hear! Hear! Cheers! Mr. Legend!”

The crowd erupted in laughter as they gulped down their drinks.

With a grin I chugged down my entire drink. I felt really good, and just wanted to forget what had happened all those years ago.

Ahh, this feels right—yes drinking is the best!

A few moments later, I sat down and poured out my heart to one of the female receptionists.

I know it’s not her job to sit here and listen to people complaining.

  But who cares!

  She’s on the clock, right?

“Hic! and then… Do you know what, hic… what she said!” I leaned in.

The receptionist leaned back. “No… but I don’t need to know… can you please just go home!”

I shook my head. “No, not yet… Do you know what that woman said!”

The receptionist rolled her eyes. “Gosh! No! What did she say?”

“She said! What’s my full name!” I whispered to her.

The receptionist raised a brow. “Let me guess, you didn’t know her name so that’s why she rejected you?”

She leaned her head back slightly, and rolled her eyes at me.

“No, that's the thing! I knew her name—her full name actually!” I shook my head.

The receptionist tilted her head. “Ohh, so why did she reject you?”

I looked to the side. “Well apparently it wasn't her full name anyway or something?!”

I chugged down more of my drink.

“I even went as far as to ask the Temple Order about it!” My shoulders slumped.

“And do you know what they told me! The very same name that I had already given to Miss Tessaria!!—So why did she say that I didn't know her full name?!”

I slammed my face down on the table with a huge thud. “What gives?!”

The receptionist sighed. “Well, a woman's heart is like a maze, you know… never know what you’ll find!”

  Huh? A maze?! Really!!

  I slowly raised my head. “Somehow… hic… that doesn't sound very reassuring…”

I looked down at my glass for a moment. ”I don’t like to see an empty glass—let’s go fix that!”

My eyes drifted toward the bar only to stop at a familiar face.

Wait, isn't he the one from that time?

I immediately stood up and went to the bar to order more beer.

A moment later I walked over to him, holding a beer in each hand.

“There you are!” I grinned, offering him one of the beers.

He gently shook his head and waved off the beer.

“Ohh, can I help you?” He said with a confused expression.

I leaned in. “You’re that kid who was with Miss Tessaria the other day, right? Larry or something, right?”

His face flattened into a dash—like he was in utter disbelief!

“No… My name is not Larry! It’s Leo!” He sighed.

I snapped my finger and pointed at him. “Yes, that’s what I said!”

Leo rolled his eyes. “Can I help you with something? People don’t usually just walk up and talk with the likes of me?”

“Ahh… don't worry about that.” I waved him off. “I don't really mind the curse thing!”

Leo’s eyes widened. “Huh? You don't? Most people just avoid me.”

“Don’t worry, I'm too great for any curse to affect me anyway!” I said proudly.

  “Right…” Leo said, unconvinced.

I leaned back my head, drinking one of the beers in one go… a moment later I wiped off my mouth with my sleeve and looked up at Leo.

“Besides, the guild master and the marquess are not stupid! They would have done something if there were any legitimacy to it.” I grinned.

Leo let out a laugh. “Haha… Ohh, I see!”

My eyes widened. “But please Leo! Can you tell me why Miss Tessaria rejected my confession?" I pleaded.

Leo scratched his head. “Huh? Well I mean it's been four years since then? Haven’t you moved on yet?”

Wait? Four years! Has it really been that long?!

I stared up toward the ceiling, trying to count the days.

Ahh, no!! I can’t let him know that I’m still thinking about her!

  Bluff dammit—I need to bluff!

“Uhm… Ohh… What on earth do you mean? Of course… I've moved on since then…” I grinned, awkwardly.

“But I'm just curious… as to why? That’s all!” I scratched my head.

Leo raised his brow… then he nodded. “Hmm… I see…”

Yes! He seems to have bought it!

Leo stared down for a moment, he seemed in deep thought… he then looked up.

“It’s not you… but it’s her.” Leo said calmly.

“Huh? What does that mean?” I raised a brow.

“It means… That she’s not interested in anyone at the moment.” Leo explained.

“What does that mean?” I tilted my head.

Leo paused. “Well, how can I explain it clearly!” He rubbed his neck.

“Ohh, I know!” Leo snapped his fingers.

“Even if the king himself confessed to her! She would still have rejected him!”

My eyes shot wide. “Even the king? Is that why she gave me that preposterous test with her name?!”

Leo nodded multiple times. “Yes, yes—Exactly!! She gave you a test, fully knowing that you would fail it!”

“Ohh really? That’s hard to believe?” I rubbed my chin.

Leo placed his hand on my shoulder.

"That's why you shouldn't let something like that get you down! And you should definitely move on from her this time—got it.” Leo gritted his teeth, his eyes twitched.

Is it just me or does Leo sound like he’s jealous?

  —Nahh! He’s way too young!

  It’s probably just my imagination!

I drank more of my beer. “You’re right Leo! I shouldn't let something like this affect me.”

Leo nodded. “Yes, yes… Well, you know what they say! There’s plenty of other fish in the sea!”

I scratched my head. “Ohh, is that something they say in the Capital? I’ve never heard that!”

Leo looked away. “Ohh, you haven't? It’s not that widespread anyway hehe.” He said with an awkward smile.

“But it means that there's plenty of women out there that would love to have a man like you!” Leo folded his arms and nodded.

My eyes shot wide. “Ahh, I see… of course! I’ll cheer for that!”

I turned around and raised my glass high toward the guild.

“The next round is on me! Let’s drink all night!” I shouted and I gulped down the rest of my beer.

The people cheered loudly and joined me in my endeavor, as the evening slowly blurred into a vivid dream.

The next day I crawled out of my bed and fell onto the floor. It felt like someone hand stomped on my head as I couldn't stand up, just laying on my back.

How did I even get home?

I tried to think back in the evening but was met by nausea and more headache.

“Alright, don’t overthink it… just try to take it easy.” I muttered to myself.

I finally was able to stand without throwing up, and take my clothes on. A few moments later I went to the inn and sat down for some well deserved breakfast.

“Ahh, that hit the spot… but honestly that Leo guy sure turned out to be nice.” I smiled.

A few moments later I finished my breakfast and leaned back, rubbing my belly in satisfaction.

A moment later I paid my bill and stood up, moving toward the exit.

But before I could walk out the door I stopped for a moment, I looked up and scratched my head.

“Hmm… I feel like I’m supposed to remember something?”

“Something with fish?” I scratched my head.

  “Ohh, it's probably not important!”
