Book 2 – Chapter 20: Signing the New Contract

  = Sarah POV =

It was about 6 pm when I arrived back home with the new contract in hand. Heather had literally lit the old contract on fire in a trash can and watched it burn as if she was secretly wishing the contract was Ms. Jun instead. Heather insisted that I look through the new contract and only bring it back signed if all the terms were satisfactory. We also exchanged contact information in the event that I wanted to crify something or request any changes.

I walked into the living room and threw the contract on the table. I curled up onto the sofa and flopped over, just staring at the contract for a while.

It was so strange, but this wasn’t the first time a boss had come on to me. In the past, I would just see it as an opportunity, but now I felt dirty and guilty…as if I was betraying Chris in some way. But Chris and I weren’t in a retionship. To her, we weren’t even friends. Here was a woman literally trying to jump my bones, and swearing to make me fall for her, and yet I was pining over someone who crushed my ribs at night and refused to talk to me in the morning.

I pulled the contract towards me and looked at it. The pay was standard at ¥210,000 starting pay, and this was a little better than the cashier position which had been ¥180,000. The position was an 8 am to 3 pm shift, and it was only 4 days a week as every other day, the café registers needed to be tallied up and the profits deposited before they could be updated into the system. The position was a junior position, so it was below minimum wage. However, Heather had expined as she walked me out that if I worked a year, there would be an automatic promotion, and my pay would increase to ¥350,000 depending on my work performance review.

“And don’t think you can get Ms. Jun to interview you for that; the work performance review is with me and our department. If it was up to Ms. Jun, I’m sure you’d make partner without even investing capital, so don’t even think of asking her to vouch for you,” Heather had warned, her eyebrows furrowed in disgust.

“I wouldn’t dream of it after how my interview went,” I had replied exasperatedly.

Heather smiled apologetically then and patted me on the back “If it’s any consotion, you’re not the first, and you won’t be the st. Also never let Ms. Jun make you anything, everyone has had a slice of rum cake, so as long as you stay clear of Ms. Jun, you’ll be fine”

I flipped through the rest of the contract. They provided dental and even mental health care days. Like what was this pce, heaven? Amber was right, they really did prioritize work-life bance; there was even a cuse about how one couldn’t be allowed to work overtime if they had chronically ill family members or if they were parents!

I rolled to my back and stared at the ceiling. I could still feel Ms. Jun’s arm on my shoulder; our bodies pressed together. I closed my eyes and drew my arm over my face. A dreamy image of her face danced in my mind’s eyes, and for a moment, I wondered what would have happened if, instead of refusing, I had opened my mouth willingly, and let her stick her fingers inside me. What would it have been like, to lick and suck those sticky sweet fingertips….

I groaned and sat up and pinched my cheeks. I cannot be thinking that way about a woman who is clearly unhinged, who has her eyes set on making a snack out of me. A confirmed pyer, she would discard me once she had had her fun with me, and it would be the groveling husband with the pissed-off wife situation all over again!

I went to my room and grabbed a pen and signed the contract. Slipping it into the bck book bag that I had carried my ptop in the other day, I decided to call it a night and took a cold shower to quell any more feelings of arousal that were pguing my mind.

Before I went to sleep, I texted Chris that I had got a job offer; however, as usual, I didn’t get a reply.

I looked through the Requests app, the strikes were adding up, and it made me feel uneasy. At least like this, I could slowly start making back the money I owed and sort out this horrible situation I had with Chris…and who knows, actually start a new situation with someone who was actually interested in me?
